New Ventures
The after school tutoring and youth entrepreneurship program, entitled New Ventures, offers youth, ages 12 to 18, the opportunity to become social entrepreneurs by encouraging them to create and implement community projects. Through this experience students learn ethical leadership and gain confidence and self-esteem while also helping them overcome feelings of inadequacy and dependency as they discover that they have important gifts to provide their communities.
Projects cover a number of areas including focus on HIV/AIDS, the environment, agriculture, or other subjects which interest the students. Participants also have the opportunity to receive tutoring for their formal studies. A key component of the after school program, is involvement of parents, school administrators, teachers and civic organizations to help foster a culture of learning, empowerment, and community ownership.
While it is the newest program implemented by Children’s Place International there are already more than 20 students enrolled.
